Joseph Hewes was educated in business and apprenticed as a merchant. His father gave him a little capital. Adding his own and his good reputation, he flourished by the time he was 30. One of the quieter members of Congress, he nevertheless supported the patriots. Unfortunately, he wasn't hardy and passed away at the age of 50.
He wasn't bold like John Adams or well-spoken like Thomas Jefferson or famous like Benjamin Franklin. Joseph Hewes served as I think those who serve in Congress ought but rarely do. He was mindful of his duty and did what he could to help a new nation takes its first steps.
His honor spoke for him. I want to be like that. I'm learning.
