Martha's father, "Jonathan Trumbull, was the only Colonial governor to remain true to the cause of the Colonies..." What kind of influence did that type of loyalty have in Martha's life? Add to it her husband being a signer of the Declaration of Independence, their home being known as the "War Office" as "rebels" met and planned.
What they know of Martha is that she was as involved and supportive of the rebel cause as her husband. What courage that would require.
Three children were born to the couple. The oldest son died at the age of 38, which devastated his father, who died a year later. The other two children, Faith two years younger than her older brother and William who was five years younger than his sister, both married.
Martha lived another 20 years after her husband's death.
