Ready for the New Year?
King George VI quoted from the poem "God Knows" by Minnie Louise
Haskins, in his 1939 Christmas broadcast. The first few lines are the
most famous portion. However, I found the poem as a whole inspiring and
apropos for the New Year. Written in 1908, it was privately published in
1912. I looked for copyright information specific to this poem and
couldn't find anything. I'd rather error on the side of the author.
Since the first portion has been widely used, it's all I'm sharing here.
I'd encourage looking up the poem as a whole. It's beautiful.
And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year:
“Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.”
And he replied:
“Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the Hand of God.
That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way.”

96. Unbeatable Mind: Forge resiliency and mental toughness to succeed at an elite level by Mark Divine nonfiction. I am not a viable candidate for SEALfit training. My ankles, knees, and back are a mess. I'm almost 100 lb overweight. None of the means I can't find value in Coach Divine's lessons. No, I can't do the 1,000 pushups, etc, every day. I can't do that many in a week. I can't do them at all. After I messed up my arm, I'm proud of being able to do 10 against the wall, 6 days a week. This is a book I wish I'd read as a teenager when I was struggling to learn how to set goals. Never too late. 2018 I'm going to endeavor to integrate what I'm learning.
97. A Husband for Christmas: Halsey Homecoming by Paty Jager Western romance novella.
98. How to Screw Up Five Lives in One Easy Lesson by L.M. Steen contemporary romance. I met L.M. Steen on social media and decided to try one of her books. It isn't typical. I laughed. I'll be reading more of her books.
99. How to Change Someone's Mind by Mike Slater a short book that's really about being a better person. Worth the read. Glad I bought it.
100. Picturing Christmas: A Novella by Jason F. Wright fiction.

REAL Week 439
REAL - Reduce stress Exercise Adequate sleep Lower caloric intake
28: 1-mile walk. PT. UB. Used 1-lb weights x2. Stretch.
What Navy SEALs are required to do to make it into BUD/S:
Right up front: Never in a million years could I do what is required. However, I needed to start somewhere. Considering how fit the SEALs are, I figured it was a good place to start. So my SEAL puppy reps (SEALp) consist of girls' pushups, crunches, and flutter kicks, a SEAL training basic. I started with doing one of each. Since my accident I haven't done these, but I'm working to add them back into my routine.
PT ~ Physical therapy
UB ~ Upper body exercises
SEALFit shared some good hints I want to learn and remember:
