Brain Dump

This was posted on a friend's social media. I politely chose not to respond. They're allowed to believe what they want. I'm not the thought police. I needed to explore each topic, to explain to myself what I believe and why:

11. I believe our current administration is fascist. Not because I dislike them or because I can’t get over an election, but because I've spent too many years reading and learning about the Third Reich to miss the similarities. Not because any administration I dislike must be Nazis, but because things are actually mirroring authoritarian and fascist regimes of the past.

I noticed similarities with the last administration, and the one before that, and the one before that... Welcome to big government, and you want to make government bigger and give government even more power.

For argument's sake, where is the evidence of an effort to take over the world? Granted, the US has interests all over the world, so yes, we're spread all over the world. However, I see withdrawals from being involved in everyone else's business, except as it pertains to the US.

Where are the signs of severe economic and social regimentation? A reduction in taxes and not just for the top tier, doesn't fit, though some states have raised taxes to crippling rates. Reduced unemployment is a sign of the opposite. Encouraging businesses, including small businesses, by a reduction in regulations, is also a sign of the opposite. (Those regulations were signs of fascism as they were meant to punish businesses not in favor with those who want to dictate what energy you use, what you eat, what you buy.)

What forcible suppression of opposition? Have television and radio stations been taken off the air that I haven't heard about? Are people being silenced? Conservatives are being silenced and de-platformed, but not by the current administration. That is being done by organizations opposed to the current administration.

Votes are not being suppressed. Requiring an ID is not suppression, unless you think it's suppression to require an ID to drive, own a phone, rent an apartment, buy cigarettes and alcohol, have a credit card, do business with a bank, have health insurance, pay taxes... okay, taxation is theft, but income tax started back in the early 1900s. Kind of silly to blame the current administration for that one.

Citizens are not being rounded up and put into jail for no reason.

The only people being slaughtered are unborn babies, to the tune of millions, but too many don't object to that.

This accusation shows a disturbing lack of knowledge of what fascism looks like, unless you're willing to include the last 100 years of administrations that have increased the size of government and slowly eroded rights, like freedom of speech (including offensive speech), freedom of religion (not from religion), the right to bear arms (shall not be infringe), the right to due process (civil forfeiture and red flag laws violate that), among other things.

Many of the people screaming FASCIST don't seem to know what fascism actually is even while they practice their own variation of fascism. Many of them praise the likes of Che, who was a brutal dictator, and others of the same ilk. The impression I'm left with is that "you keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
