Once again, there is truly very little about the lady herself. She bore 10 children and raised them to be honorable. The 3 oldest, boys, served their fledgling country. She escaped the destruction of her husband's vast property by the British. Once the enemy was routed, she was there helping him rebuild. There are only references to her in letters to Mr. Morris by their son. Even those references are meager, speaking of her safe escape and current whereabouts.
I cannot imagine the courage it must have taken, and yet what other choice did she have? We lament of the difficult choices we endure and forget the luxury of having choices.
