I've wondered at why so many lawyers are numbered among the Founding Fathers. As I read the history of Mr. Hooper, it occurred to me it was necessary. The men gathered knew their rights as regarded English law. There were also vast number of men educated as ministers. The group harbored men who knew God's laws and man's laws.
Mr. Hooper moved to North Carolina, from Boston, to practice law. He, at first, supported the governor and was branded a loyalist. Once he recognized the governor for the tyrant he was, Mr. Hooper championed the cause of the patriots and became known as among the leaders of the patriots.
Like many of the Founding Fathers, he and his family were harassed by the British, and his lands destroyed. He continued on. Unfortunately, he died at the age of 48.
A man studies and learns and makes decisions. Fortunately, repentance is always an option.
