Coming to an airport near you...

Full body scanners. Have you seen the pictures?! When did pornography become sanctioned by the government?! Nov 24, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, is being dubbed National Opt Out Day. Opting out means instead of being x-rayed for naked pictures, you will win a complete and thorough body pat down. The purpose is to make it so embarrassing that people will not opt out. I'm horrified and terrified by both options. My history makes it even worse. My personal morals are screaming. I will not be flying Nov 24, but I will be a few months later. Here is what I plan to do: First, I will opt out. I will do so in a voice that the entire area can hear, including announcing that I want it done in public with an officer present because I've been molested by family members, dates, and strangers, and if it's going to happen again I want plenty of witnesses. I will NEVER be a silent victim again. I will not be embarrassed or cowed. No one is allowed to bully me anymore, not even my government. Then I'll throw up on their shoes.

  2. Good for you! This whole deal makes traveling less and less appealing...

  3. I love the throwing up on their shoes part. That would be my reaction too.

  4. Our founding fathers would be outraged to see how easy we are rolling over to tyranny without even a fight. They, along with others, have died for our freedoms & we are letting tyranny just up & take our freedoms away from us as long as we have Monday Night Football & soap operas.

  5. Hi Judy,

This really scares me. I'll be traveling to San Fran in January. The last thing I want is for someone to pat me down as if I'm a criminal. If I opt out, what happens then?

  6. Hi, Judy,

:-) Unfortunately, the choice that is coming is either the scanner, ie, an x-ray that gives them a picture of you essentially without clothes despite the clothes you're wearing, or you opt out, which means you'll be patted down. I find both choices abhorrent. Add to that, they don't know how risky the radiation used in the scanners truly is over a long period of time, especially for frequent fliers, flight crews, children, or pregnant women. Yes, children are also subject to the scanner or the pat down. So, it isn't okay for a stranger to touch a child, unless it's a TSA agent... I'm Christian and endeavor to obey the Ten Commandments, but my right to simple modesty is forfeit without my say-so. The TSA states that because my face isn't recognizable on the picture it's all right. Excuse me? For now, the scanner is a random selection of passengers, at only some airports, but the future plan is to employ it everywhere. My reason for choosing the pat down over the x-ray is that I have more control over that. I have the right to request an agent who is female and that an officer be present. I'm an American citizen, in good standing. I've never had a ticket in my life. But because I want to visit friends, far from where I live, I will be treated like a criminal. "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." Benjamin Franklin. My congressmen will be hearing from me, again.

Praying for peace for you in your travels.
    Judy :-)

  7. Slight correction, the agent doing the pat down will be the same gender as the criminal... passenger being pat down... sorry, the sarcasm is a little thick, today, a reflection of my frustration... no a reflection of how sick this makes me feel.
