I know many advocate against career politicians, and with good reason. Having said that, this country would have suffered if term limits existed for Sam Adams. Then again, Sam Adams loved and averred liberty above all else. If all politicians were so inclined, I doubt anyone would be concerned about term limits.
He believed it better for 999 to die so 1 might live in liberty than 1,000 live in slavery. It would also be the duty of the 1 to live well and in gratitude for the privilege of living in liberty, making his life a testament to the goodness of his life because of the blessed sacrifice of those 999. Do I hold such convictions? I want to say yes, and yet, thousands have died for my right to liberty. Do I live life in such a way as to honor those who died for me to enjoy the right? I could do better, I think.
